What is Marriage

Marriage is a union between a man and a woman where they become one flesh; one body. Look at the word “union”. It means: unite and unity. Marriage is a convenient between the two parties and God. A covenant is an agreement, a promise and an oath. Once you say “I do”, you have sealed that covenant. You are telling God that you agree to be together until your dying day. This encompasses the tests, the trials and the tribulation. It means you stick together through thick and thin. It is said in the Bible that united we stand, divided we fall. Marriage is not a matter of convenience. It’s not about what you can get out of the deal. However, it is about what you can pout into your spouse and achieve greater goals in partnership. Some people think marriage is just a piece of paper, but it is absolutely not! It is a huge commitment. Probably one of the biggest oaths you can take while here on this earth. It is so important to God that is is also called a holy covenant before God.

We don’t just wake up one day and decide “today is the big day, I’m going to get married” or tell ourselves “I’m going to find a guy and just get married”. Like any other major life change, there is a preparation time, which looks different for each person. It needs to include deep conversation and leading from the Lord, as well a taking Godly council with people in your life that you trust. Some of us single ladies have referred to this season of life as our “waiting time”. I believe wholeheartedly that God ordains marriages and chooses the one that is comparable to you and will be equally yoked. For example. if you are running fervently toward the purpose of God for your life, the Lord will certainly not come and bring a spouse for you that is not planted or headed in a similar direction.

He knows the plans and purposes of your life and he will send the best person to draw you closer to the will of God.

Alternatively, He will want you to be that person to your potential spouse before placing you in that lifelong partnership. In marriage the two shall become one pillar of love strength and unity.

When God brings that special person, there are two steps to the process:

– Getting to know each other and building a friendship; learning each others personality, character, likes, dislikes and life goals.

– Building trust with each other. “Am I going to believe what you say, what you do or where you are going?”

As the days and months go by, you begin to get closes and get to know each other in a deeper way, you will begin to develop a bond together and God will place a love in your hearts that are inseparable. Marriage is very precious in God’s eyes. He looks at you like His bride, the church; spotless. As you immerge into that person, preparing for your wedding, you become one flesh, one body in Christ. In Genesis 2:23 Adam says, “bones of my bones and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called woman because she was taken out of man.”. God’s purpose for man and woman is to become one. That’s why Genesis 2:24 says, “Man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and they shall become one flesh.”. When two people stand together, there is greater impact (oppose to one standing alone). In my ife, one saying has continued to pop up, “can one hand clap?”.

If you are getting into a relationship with someone who is separated from marriage, but not yet divorsed, there is a certain caution to be known. If you are considering them as a long term partner or life partner, it is ike tryig to build a house on shaky round. While this person may want and fully intent to get divorced, his separated status will limit their availability to have a formal relationship and interaction with you. It is a form of adultery because this person remains in oath to another person and so the unity and connection you try to buld will enevitably be interrupted and disconnected. God’s Word is clear about the commitment of marriage and only a relationship buildon solid rock with endure the test of time.
